Shadows

I scared of God, Mama.

You’re scared of God?

Yes, cuz shadows are dark. Can’t see them. I can’t see God. I scared of God.

Oh, Baby. God isn’t shadows. God is Love. Like even when you can’t see Mommy & Daddy you know that we love you?

Yea.

Well, that’s how God is. Even when you can’t see, you must always know that you are loved. By Mommy and Daddy. Sissy. Reidy. Maggie. Hannah. Haley. Grandma. Grandpa. And God. That’s what He is. He’s always loving you. Even when you can’t see Him.

Ok, Mama. I not scared. Can I go to sleep now?

Isn’t this true of 4 year-olds and 15 year-olds and 40 year-olds? We’re scared. We can’t see who God is. Is He dark and shadowy? Is He scary? Is He Judgement?

Let’s take it back. Truth. God IS that perfect friend. The One you can always count on. The One, when you are scared, who comes to mind that brings comfort. Maybe you’ve never even had that friend that provides solace in the dark. I hadn’t either. Honestly, I went through many years of my life that I didn’t have anyone I thought I could turn to. I wish I’d known that, just as simply as closing my eyes and seeing the darkness, I could have closed my eyes and seen my friend. Rested in His Love.

Once embraced, this truth has far-surpassed every other event I’ve experienced in my life. Find your solace in the dark. Rest in His Love.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 28-29
